Our goal with Gift Your Town is not to be another weird directory website but an ongoing resource for people to buy locally and easily, while creating a passive income stream for local businesses and the people managing the site.

Why Gift Cards/Certificates?

Gift cards and gift certificates are not only an easy thing to send and receive, they are also a profitable line item for businesses. Consider these gift card/certificate facts:

So whether the gift card is never redeemed or whether the recipient comes in and spends more than the value, gift certificates are a money making proposition for businesses AND something gift recipients want to receive. Helping local businesses sell them and local residents and visitors purchase them is a win win.

What We Won’t Have

In creating Gift Your Town, we thought about what we didn’t want this website to be as much as what we wanted it to have. Please DON’T expect the following:

Unclear affiliation – We don’t want to hide who is behind this website. Here we are.

Unclear pricing – Customers will see the $5 handling fee before they even put their purchases in their shopping cart. This will be clearly indicated also during the whole checkout process. Want to charge a different handling fee when we create your website? That’s fine!

Merchant fees¬†– Any business on or around a particular area with a paper good to sell (gift certificate, membership, etc.) is welcome to sell on the Gift Your Town website for their community and keep 100% of their sales. We’ve seen lots of models that charge businesses, from discount sites like Groupon to directory websites and this lack of merchant fees means everyone can be included and is a market differentiator.

Exclusive membershipYou don’t need to be part of a certain group or be friends with a certain person, Gift Your Town is ideally open to everyone, whatever market it’s in.

Bad Customer Experience/Service – Online shoppers are used to sophisticated websites and great customer service and we want any Gift Your Town website to give them that, not only with technology but with personal, timely interactions.

Competitors are on the same site?

If you live in a small town so yes. But did having other businesses or non-profits¬† in the same town stop new businesses from opening or existing businesses from offering new products/services? Of course not. A rising tide lifts all boats and you better believe we are rooting for your success as hard as we root for your ‘competitors’. On Gift Your Town websites, businesses can expect even handedness related to marketing/promotion and integrity related to dealings with all businesses served.

Free for businesses to list, a small convenience fee for customers, and lots of options mean you can find a local gift for anyone … Support local businesses in your pajamas and give your family and friends something you love that they’ll love too.¬†
